David

Visit at the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo's David

This astonishing Renaissance sculpture was created between 1501 and 1504. It is a 410 cm marble statue depicting the Biblical here David.

Because of the nature of the hero it represented, the statue soon came to symbolize the defence of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence, an independent city-state.

cattedrale di Santa Maria in fiore

Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral

It was designed and begun by Arnolfo di Cambio at the end of the 13th century. It is the third largest church in the world (after St. Peter's in Rome and St. Paul's in London). The dome was added in the 15th century on a design by Filippo Brunnelleschi.

>Palazzo della Signoria e palazzo Vecchio

Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio

Piazza della Signoria is an L-shaped square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. It is the main point of the origin and history of the Florentine Republic and still maintains its reputation as the political focus of the city. It is the meeting place of Florentines as well as the numerous tourists, and gateway to the Uffizi Gallery.

Ponte vecchio sul'Arno

Ponte Vecchio over the Arno River

The Ponte Vecchio is Florence's most legendary symbol  and also considered by many as the most romantic spot in the city. The first bridge was made of wood and replaced by one made of stone in 1345. The stone structure still stands to this day, making it the oldest stone bridge in Europe.
